AgentOS vs Manus: an agent that does the task, or AI that knows your company?

Manus is a general AI agent: you give it a task and it goes away and does it on its own cloud computer. AgentOS is the shared company memory that your AI tools work from. Manus is impressive at one-off jobs like deep research, a slide deck or a small website. What it knows about your business is whatever you put in a project or connect to your own account. AgentOS keeps your company's knowledge in one place for the whole team and for every AI tool you use, and runs the workflows you repeat every week.

What does Manus do well?

Manus is one of the most capable general agents you can try. You describe a task, and it works through it on a virtual computer of its own, with a browser and a file system, then hands back the finished thing. That might be a research report, a slide deck, a working website or, since version 2.0, an edited video.

It's good at work that would take a person an afternoon of tabs. Its Wide Research feature runs many lookups in parallel, and you can watch it work and take over the browser if it gets stuck.

For teams there's a shared workspace with pooled credits, shared projects and single sign-on. Manus lists SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications and says it doesn't train models on your data.

Where does Manus fall short for a business?

Manus is a brilliant generalist that starts each task knowing very little about you. You can give a project a set of instructions and files, and you can save entries to a personal knowledge base, which is capped at 100 entries on the Pro plan. That's enough to steer a task. It isn't the same as knowing two years of client history.

Connections are personal. Manus's documentation says integration connections belong to your account and aren't shared. So what Manus can reach depends on who is asking, and the team doesn't build up one common picture.

Cost is hard to predict. Manus bills in credits, which are used up by the model, the virtual computer and outside services, and its help center says there's no way to see what a task will cost before it runs. Reviewers mention long tasks using more credits than they expected.

It's also another AI tool with its own memory. If part of your team uses ChatGPT and part uses Claude, Manus becomes a third place where knowledge about the business has to be set up.

How is AgentOS different?

AgentOS isn't a general agent you hand tasks to. It's the layer that makes your company's knowledge available to all of your AI tools.

You connect the places that knowledge already lives, such as Gmail, Slack, Google Drive and your CRM. AgentOS keeps one shared, current picture of the business for the whole team, not one per person. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and your own agents connect to it over MCP, so each one starts out knowing your clients and your history.

You decide what each tool can see and change. Answers link back to the email, call or document they came from, and when an agent wants to change something important in one of your systems, it waits for a person to approve it.

For the work you repeat, you describe a workflow in plain language and Otto, the agent built into AgentOS, builds it and runs it on a schedule. And you get one view of AI use and spend across the tools you connect.

Should you choose Manus or AgentOS?

Choose Manus for one-off projects where the output is a finished thing: a market scan, a deck, a prototype site. It's a strong tool for an individual who wants to hand off a chunk of work.

Choose AgentOS when the work is ongoing and depends on what your company knows: client follow-ups, weekly reporting, call prep, anything where the answer lives across email, chat and your CRM.

Plenty of teams will use both. Manus connects to custom MCP servers, which is how an agent like it can work from the company knowledge AgentOS holds.

What about other Manus alternatives?

Lists of Manus alternatives mostly name other agents and assistants: ChatGPT, Claude, Genspark, Lindy, Perplexity, Devin and open-source projects like OpenManus. If you're weighing assistants, see how AgentOS works with ChatGPT and Claude, or our look at Lindy alternatives.
