ChatGPT vs Claude for business: which should your team pay for?
On price there's nothing to choose between them: ChatGPT Business and Claude Team both cost $25 a seat a month, or $20 on annual billing. The differences are in the details. ChatGPT Business packs in more built-in tools and has no stated seat cap we could find. Claude Team includes Claude Code with every seat and stops at 150 people. Neither trains on your business data by default. And neither one gives the rest of your AI tools a shared picture of your company, which is where a lot of teams end up paying for both.

Details come from OpenAI's and Anthropic's own pricing and help pages, checked October 13, 2026. Both companies change plans often, and a few of their own pages disagree with each other, so check the sources below before you buy.
What do ChatGPT Business and Claude Team cost?
The same. Both list a standard seat at $25 per person a month on monthly billing, or $20 if you pay for the year. Both also sell a premium seat at $125 a month, or $100 on annual billing, with about five times the usage. You can mix seat types on either plan, so the heaviest users can have the bigger allowance without upgrading everyone.
The difference is at the edges. ChatGPT Business starts at two seats, and we couldn't find a published upper limit. Claude Team is for 2 to 150 people. A company larger than that has to move to Claude Enterprise, which Anthropic lists at $20 a seat billed annually plus usage at API rates.
For a 25-person team on monthly billing, either one comes to $7,500 a year. If you want to see what that looks like next to the rest of your AI tools, the AI spend calculator adds it up in about a minute.
Is your business data used for training?
Not by default, on either. OpenAI says it does not use business data to train its models unless you opt in, for example by sending feedback. Anthropic says the same about its commercial products, with the same exception for feedback you choose to send, and lets owners turn chat ratings off.
This is the question we hear most from teams choosing between them, and it isn't a deciding factor. Both answers are the one you want.
How do the admin and security controls compare?
Both business plans cover the basics: single sign-on, a place to manage members and billing, and controls over which connectors are allowed. OpenAI lists SOC 2 Type 2 for Business. Anthropic lists SOC 2 Type I and II and ISO 27001 for its commercial products, though its page doesn't break that down by plan.
Both keep the heavier controls for their enterprise tiers. On ChatGPT that means SCIM, IP allowlisting, data residency and the Compliance API. On Claude it means SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API and custom data retention.
Two things were unclear when we checked. OpenAI's privacy page says Business admins can control data retention in one place and lists that control as Enterprise only in another. Anthropic's pricing table and its Team help article disagree about domain capture and role-based access on Team. If either matters to you, ask the vendor before you sign.
How does each one connect to your company's data?
Both can now read from the places your work lives. ChatGPT Business has apps for Microsoft 365, Google Drive, Slack, GitHub and others, turned on by default, and a Company Knowledge feature that respects the permissions in the source. Claude Team has connectors for Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and Slack, and can connect to any service that supports MCP once an owner allows it.
The catch is the same on both. Each person signs in to each connector themselves, and what the assistant learns stays with that person or that project. Claude's memory is per person and off until each member turns it on. ChatGPT lists expanded memory on Business, and we couldn't confirm whether any of it is shared across a workspace.
So each tool can look things up for the person asking. Neither keeps one shared, current picture of the business that everyone's AI works from.
Which has better agents and automation?
ChatGPT Business has the longer list: Codex for coding, workspace agents, scheduled tasks, deep research, a built-in browser and Skills in beta. Some of it is limited. OpenAI's own page says the near-unlimited access covers ordinary chat and doesn't make reasoning models, Codex or other tools unlimited, and standard seats get 15 Pro messages a month.
Claude Team includes Claude Code with every seat, which many developers will count as the main reason to choose it. It also has Cowork, which Anthropic describes as the same agent that powers Claude Code without the terminal, along with Skills, Research and scheduled tasks. Usage limits apply per member, with a weekly cap across all models.
If your team is mostly developers, try both coding tools before you decide. If it's mostly operations, sales and finance, look hardest at how each one handles your documents and your recurring tasks.
So which should a business choose?
Choose ChatGPT Business if you want the widest set of built-in tools in one subscription, your team is larger than 150 people and not ready for an enterprise contract, or you already work in Microsoft 365 and want the connectors on from day one.
Choose Claude Team if your developers want Claude Code, your team is under 150 people, or you prefer memory and connectors that stay off until each person switches them on.
Plenty of companies choose both, because different people on the same team have a favorite. That works, as long as you know what you're paying and you've dealt with the problem neither tool solves.
What do neither of them solve?
Ask ChatGPT and Claude the same question about one of your clients and you'll often get two different answers, or no answer at all. Each tool knows what its user has connected and told it. Your company's knowledge ends up split by person and by tool, and people fill the gap by pasting in background again and again.
That is the job AgentOS does. You connect your email, chat, files, calendar and CRM once, and AgentOS keeps one shared picture of the business. ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and your own agents connect to it over MCP and answer from the same company knowledge, with the source shown. It also runs recurring work, and anything that goes out waits for a person to approve it.
AgentOS doesn't replace either assistant. It makes whichever ones your team already uses know your company. See how it works with ChatGPT and with Claude, or read what a context layer is.
